When you have played your instrument long enough, you start seeing yourself and the environment through your instrument;
therefore playing solo is the finest and the most delicate form of music-making. Vulnerable and powerful. The sacred and secret spot where one cannot rely upon anyone else.
Improvising from scratch, composing in-the-moment is the most sensitive and purest form of making music. The improviser does not only create in the moment, but should also be able to interpret it. If it's not real, you will loose it.
'Further adventures of Marco Polo' was originally recorded for collaboration purposes on May 2011. Two of these tracks were sent out to other musicians, and none of these recordings were listened again after that until they recently came in front of me once more. After listening to them again it was clear that I would publish this suite as a whole. Much has happened after these recordings, of course, as there have been long period of almost compulsive work with new and fresh ideas, the results of which will be released later this autumn.
I hope you find this suite enjoyable.

Just A Moment
Following March's earthquake in Japan, there has been great progress in the on-going rebuilding project but still, much work remains. So Bartosz Dziadosz (Pleq) and (Harry Towell) decided that they would put together something special to be released through Audio Gourmet to raise money for the cause

As the Audio Gourmet netlabel catalog expands with the weeks and months that pass, I am delighted to push the label in a new direction with the inclusion of this stunning EP from Finnish guitarist Alvari Lume.
Alvari Lume is the artist name for guitar experiments from Jaakko Saavolainen, who mostly performs live either solo or with other musicians. He also is responsible for running a successful experimental music club called TMK.
'Ennen' is part one of two EP releases for Audio Gourmet and showcases a selection of three experimental guitar pieces I selected from the artist's Reverb Nation account. All of these tracks are past productions and span the last few years of Alvari Lume's recordings. 'Ennen' means 'then' in Finnish and is an apt title given that the recordings are all selected previous works from his catalog.
Fortcoming for the future will be the 'Nyt' EP, meaning 'now' in Finnish; this will feature a selection of pieces that Alvari Lume is working on specifically for the Audio Gourmet netlabel, to show where his music is at currently.
Within the three experimental tracks on 'Ennen', your ears are in for a treat. This is crafted entirely from the recorded sound of his live and improvised guitar and the fact that there is no additional electronic manipulation is a testament to his outstanding talent as a performer.
Here is Alvari Lume's Myspace page so that you may stay informed of this talented artist's plans for the future:

(double album)GUITARS: AN ANTHOLOGY OF EXPERIMENTAL SOLO GUITAR MUSIC(w/ Stefano Pilia / Anders Lindsjö / Olaf Rupp / Neil Davidson / Michal Dymny / Manuel Mota / Marco Tabellini / Chris Iemulo / Alvari Lume / Hannes Buder / Gilles Laval / Peter Stenberg / Brian Mitchell / Nicotina / Pablo Montagne / Roger Sundström / Eric Arn / Thomas Barrière / Mikaele Pellegrino / Yannis Frier / Jonny Drury / Filippo Giuffré / Olivier Bost)
Playing solo is one of the most natural things, especially for a musician who plays guitar: that’s how he generally practices and crafts his personal sound. It can also be a convenient way to record and perform live. In addition to that, almost all the most innovative and influential guitarists are great solo performers, too. This anthology gathers 23 guitarists from all over Europe, different in age and background, showing an extremely wide variety of styles and approaches. Some of these musicians know each other by having played together, some are linked by influence, or mutual respect. Others will profit from this chance to acknowledge, exchange and compare with unknown fellow guitar players. The musicians who were asked to contribute to this project were also given a loose concept: “the relationship between improvisation and composition”. This element is perhaps the reason why the music here collected shows such a wide number of forms, from radical free improvisation to actually written scores, and all in between. The listener may also find a parallel concept, involving the research and development of extended techniques. The variety of sounds is therefore impressive, as well as the range of tones and moods (from intimate and delicate picking to hypnotic drones, humorous manipulations, mournful melodies, ominous feedbacks or harsh, aggressive plucking). Ultimately, one of this anthology’s purposes is to map the current state of the guitar in the field of experimental and avant-garde music in Europe. Keeping in mind that it would be impossible to be absolutely exhaustive, it is however to be hoped that these two albums will highlight some valuable ideas and connections, stimulating the improvement of existing forms as well as the research for new, possible paths. The entire project was conceived and coordinated by guitarist Marco Tabellini that with Giust produced the album.
